Bypassing the atherosclerotic coronary arteries with autologous grafts, synthetic prostheses, and tissue-engineered vascular grafts continue to be evaluated in search of a readily available vascular graft with clinically acceptable outcomes. The development of such a vascular graft including tissue engineering approaches both in situ and in vitro is herein reviewed, facilitating a detailed comparison on the role of seeded cells in vascular graft patency.

Angiographic estimation of atherosclerotic disease burden in a coronary artery fed by collaterals: a potential pitfall in decision for revascularization

Despite the remarkable advances in revascularization strategies made during the last decade, a significant proportion of patients are excluded from either percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass grafting because of unsuitable coronary anatomy. Diffuse severe coronary artery disease, small vessel caliber, chronic total occlusions, or extremely calcified vessels are frequent ...

عنوان: Effects of Benson’s relaxation technique on comfort level of patients before coronary artery bypass grafting (A clinical trial)

چکیده: Background: Comfort, especially before major surgeries, is regarded as a basic patient need. Lack of this issue is mainly due to neglect of healthcare staff. Therefore, performing effective nursing interventions to provide comfort is of paramount importance. This study aimed to determine the effect of Benson’s relaxation technique on patient comfort before coronary artery bypass grafting...

Right sided heart evaluation after successful mitral valve replacement.

Introduction: It is well-documented that right-sided heart dysfunction and significant tricuspid valve regurgitation (TVR) have adverse effects on patient outcomes after left-sided heart valve surgery. Therefore, the evaluation of right ventriclular (RV) function and TR severity in patients who had undergone mitral valve replacement (MVR), associated with/without concomitant su...

High-risk Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and Mitral Valve Replacement in a HIV Positive Patient

Certain subsets of high-risk mitral valve patients are not suitable candidates for transcatheter therapies. The objective of this report is to present a young patient with combined mitral valve and coronary artery disease to illustrate these challenges. In this report, we present a 47-year-old man with longstanding HIV infection who was referred with severe mitral regurgitation (MR) and profound...

Coronary revascularization for patients with diabetes: updated data favor coronary artery bypass grafting.

Diabetes mellitus, by virtue of myriad processes, including its effects reducing vascular nitric oxide and prostacyclin production and increasing endothelin, angiotensin II, tissue factor activity, and platelet activity (1,2), wreaks havoc on coronary and other arteries, leading to diffuse and often unstable coronary atherosclerosis. It is also a risk factor for poor outcomes after both percuta...
